When you decide to join
If you decide that the Choir is for you after rehearsing with us, you are invited to take out a membership. The Choir funds activities and rehearsals by charging a joining fee of $22.00 ($11.00 concession), plus an annual Membership Fee of $38.00 ($19 concession). Our annual membership renewal is payable in January of each year by all members. When you join, the first-year membership fee may be reduced according to the time you join. In addition, there is a fee of $5.00 every rehearsal, paid at the rehearsal, to help pay for the use and up-keep of the Heffron Hall. There is also a bi-annual Music Library fee of $15 which allows us to use licensed music, to have enough copies available for all members at rehearsal and to continually update our music repertoire.
After you join, you may be asked to take part in a musical skills audit. This is not an audition, but an assessment of skills, usually with the Musical Director and Section Leader. It’s non-threatening and full of fun. You can sing a nursery rhyme or any song that you like - it’s that easy! No one is rejected from the choir as a result of the musical skills audit.
When you are ready to perform with the Choir on stage
Once you become a member, if you have already become familiar with your vocal part of the songs that we are going to sing, you can be on stage in the next performance! The earlier you come to our rehearsals, the earlier you will be on stage in the Choir. If you are not ready to be on stage, don’t worry, you can choose to be in the audience to enjoy the performance just as well. Having done your part in the rehearsals, you are likely to enjoy a much deeper understanding of the chorus. From time to time, some of our members also sit out part of a performance. Likewise, you can be in part of the performance if it can be managed.
