We’re excited to present our next major concert in March showcasing repertoire we will be presenting in the Proud Voices Asia ‘Hand in Hand’ Choral Festival in Toyko in April. There we’ll be celebrating with 16 Asian LGBTQI choirs and we’ve chosen music to inspire, motivate and bring our cultures together.
Featuring pride anthems like ‘This Is Me’, ‘Proud’ and the eponymous song ‘Rise Up’, contemporary Australian works including part of our own commissioned work by composer John Peterson, ‘Dreams and Visions’, together with popular Japanese choral works.
In Rise Up and on our Japanese tour, we’ll be demonstrating solidarity with our LGBTQI friends in Japan while promoting our unique Australian culture and supporting their push for Marriage Equality and greater acceptance.
We’re delighted that we’ll be joined by the Taikoz Quartet and the Sydney Sakura Choir!
TheTaikoz Quartet is a part of the world-famous Australian taiko ensemble Taikoz, blending traditional Japanese taiko drumming practice with contemporary Australian and Japanese compositions. Find out more about Taikoz.
The Sydney Sakura Choir is a community choir of over 50 members which has been performing since April 2014. The choir prides itself on its musical ambassadorship for Japan and has performed at cultural festivals and charity events across Sydney and Australia. Find out more about Sydney Sakura Choir.
Verbrugghen Hall
The Verbrugghen Hall is a world-class venue with exceptional acoustics and the largest performance space at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in the Royal Botanic Gardens. Easily accessed by public transport with parking stations nearby, the hall provides the perfect location for a choral concert.
