Sydney Gay & Lesbian Choir

Home: Voices Without Borders – Concert Promo

Just before it packed its suitcases and left home for a major international tour to northern Europe, Sydney Gay & Lesbian Choir presented a farewell concert which reflected on the meaning of home for LGBTQI people around the world. The concert included the classic song Over the Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz, which over the years has become an anthem for the LGBTQI community’s journey towards a better world. Coincidentally, the concert coincided with the 45th anniversary of the Stonewall riot in New York City which galvanised the gay liberation movement and is said to have been partly fuelled by the reaction to Judy Garland’s funeral the day before. This promotional video uses the title track from the concert as performed by the choir, and sets the scene by telling the story of an anonymous figure, in sparkling ruby heels, trying find a soulmate in the cold big city.
